Eugenie Bouchard meets ‘Super Bowl Twitter date’ for Nets game

Eugenie Bouchard is a woman of her word.

After agreeing to a date with a fan who asked her out on Twitter during the Super Bowl, the 22-year-old professional tennis player met her date Wednesday night. Bouchard and 20-year-old University of Missouri student John Goehrke decided to take in a Nets game against the Bucks in Brooklyn.

The date even went pretty well as Bouchard told YES Network the night wasn’t awkward and she was impressed that he is a big sports fan.

“He’s normal,” she said. “We’ve gotten to know each other. It’s great.”

When the New England Patriots were down 28-3 to the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl 51, Goehrke decided to go out on a limb.

The young marketing major shot off a tweet to Bouchard asking if she’d go on a date with him if the Patriots came back to win.

“Sure,” was the likely facetious response from the Canadian tennis pro.

The Patriots made a remarkable comeback to score a 34-28 overtime victory to win the franchise’s fifth Super Bowl. Immediately after the game, Bouchard tweeted to Goehrke, asking, “So… where do you live?”

She tweeted a short video of the two sitting courtside.

They were then spotted leaving the floor as the Bucks were wrapping up their 129-125 victory at Barclays Center.

Say what you want about Bouchard, who is among the models featured in this month’s Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition, she’s a person of integrity.

As for Goehrke, clearly he took some advice from hockey great Wayne Gretzky: “You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.”
