Graphic Design Class Designs Horizon Honors New Logo

When Horizon Community Learning Center began planning their 20th anniversary celebrations several months ago, they knew they needed a new logo for their schools. Instead of hiring an expensive advertising firm, they looked instead to their own students in Graphic Design class. Students spent hours of their free time creating drafts and testing designs before a final look was chosen.

“Our logo for the last 20 years and has served us well, but for the next 20 years we are so excited to move forward with a new look,” said Horizon Community Learning Center Executive Director Betsy Fera. “To create this logo, we recruited the help of some extremely talented Graphic Design students and support from Graphic Design Teacher Ms. Britt. Together, I believe we created something modern and forward thinking.”

On April 8, the schools held special 20th anniversary assemblies. The celebrations included a presentation of a document received from Mayor Greg Stanton proclaiming “Horizon Community Learning Center Day” in Phoenix, a 20 year music mashup performance from the Horizon Honors Middle School Spiritline, a visit from the Arizona Coyote’s “Howler,” the announcement of the mascot’s new name, and, of course, the unveiling of a new logo.

The students who created the new logo design are (in alpha order):

Senior Marisol Andrade-Munoz

Freshman Blake Benefiel

Sophomore Laney Corey

Senior Josh Davidson

Senior Zach Davidson

Senior Colin McIlvenna

Freshman Cat Scolaro
