Track & Field: Men’s pole vault, women’s steeplechase (CBC)
The 100-metre final may be over, but there’s still lots of track and field action on offer, and the men’s pole vault is one of the most high-profile on the docket for Monday.Canadian Shawn Barber is a strong medal contender in the event, having won gold at the world championships last year.
He’s already qualified for the medal round, and comes in with the second-highest personal best of anyone in the competition, at six metres even. Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie, who won gold four years ago and is the current world record holder, is likely Barber’s stiffest competition. He’ll go try for gold at around 7:30 p.m. ET Monday evening.
Elsewhere on the track, Canadian Genevieve Lalonde goes in the 3,000-metre steeplechase, after having set a Canadian record in her qualification run on Saturday.
Men’s volleyball: Canada’s last tune-up match (TSN)
Canada’s men’s volleyball team is in decent shape to move on after four round-robin games, but they’ll be looking for a win against Italy in their final tune-up match to guarantee their passage into the knockout stages.
The Italians should pose a tough opponent, however, currently sitting in first place in Pool A. The Top 4 teams in each pool move on, and Canada’s currently in a four-way tie for second behind the Italians. They’ll look to book their ticket to the quarter-finals on Monday evening with a win.
