10 Steps to Great Content Marketing

Content Marketing is one of the most important processes to understand when creating a business or brand. It is a brands way of telling a story to attract new customers and bring back existing ones. Doing this causes you to have to understand the dynamic and purpose of your business. Then you can dive into a content strategy that’ll help you grow and dig deeper into finding out what your message is to your audience. Below are ten clear steps you can use when creating good content.

1. Your purpose

Brands are based off of this simple tool. To start, you need to think of the purpose of your brand. What is it that got you interested in this business? Making a list of all the ideas you put into your brand is what will grab an audiences’ attention. As you go along, this list will change and should continue to evolve. Explain everything you know about your brand and how it got started. This should help in building a stable relationship with your audience.

2. Who is your audience?

Make sure you know who it is you are trying to reach. Based off of what you are trying to sell a consumer, whether it’s something tangible or something conceptual, knowing the purpose of your reasoning is important. Your audience is looking to you as to what it is you want them to take away from your website, blog, book, and so on.

Narrowing down to specific groups is your goal. Your style of content is what is going to bring that distinct audience back and back again.

3. Do your research

A good way to stay organized and on topic is to do your own research. Reading is a great way to see what you like and don’t want to incorporate into your brand. By reading other people’s websites or blogs, you can save the ones you found interesting and create a folder. Maybe you find a blog that resonates with the same topic as yours, but you know it could be enhanced. By doing your own research this will help you find a niche into your own content.

4. Have a strategy!

Having a strategy to content marketing will make life for you just a bit easier.

Organize your topics on what it is you want to talk about next. Make a deadline for yourself and your team, so things get done in a proper time frame. Coordinate content direction with branding goals and your consumers needs as well.

5. Your team

If you have a team, which is probably the case, bouncing ideas off of one another once a week is a good plan. So, set a day and time every week you can meet with your team so the inspiration gets flowing. You never know who your colleagues met and got ideas from those last few days. Sharing ideas amongst one another will help with different topics and title ideas.

6. Be selective

Do not just write something just to write it! Everything that you do needs to have a purpose like we talked about earlier. Content marketing has a flow with your brand. Just because you may come to a road block once in a while doesn’t mean just throw something out there. This can cause you to lose consumers because it probably won’t catch their attention like previous posts. Try and reinvent old ideas in a new and appealing way!

7. Write

By consistently writing down ideas, notes, articles, and quotes throughout your day, you are building your brand. Writing things down will help you remember things also, which can help you get creative later.

Another point to make, that when you are writing, make sure the way you are writing is appealing to your audience. Maybe your an upbeat person, or a serious writer. Whatever the case may be, make sure you are consistent with a theme or attitude so you are not confusing your audience.

8. Editing

Find an editor and make sure you use him or her on a consistent basis. Having errors in your work will make consumers turned off by your brand and find you not very professional.

9. Main Goal

In content marketing there is a goal. The goal is to get your brand noticed to where you have a steady flow of customers and bring on new ones, while also telling a story. Go through the steps of what you want to achieve with creating your business. Tell your audience in so many words what the intent of your business is for them. This will make sure they are taking the message you conceived away from your brand.

10. Patience

If you are just starting out trying to build your brand this whole process can be frustrating at times. Don’t let it get you down! The more you work on your skills and the deeper understanding you grasp about good content writing, the easier it will get. You will start to see results with your content marketing and strategy if you follow these simple steps. It may take time to get where you want to be, but patience is key.
