Women — Canada lost 17-5 to Australia in the semifinals, but later defeated Great Britain 33-10 to win the bronze medal.

Women’s 100m Backstroke — Kylie Masse, LaSalle, Ont., won the bronze medal in 58.76.

Basketball

Women — Canada beat Serbia 71-67 in the preliminary round, improving to 2-0 in Group B. Kia Nurse, Hamilton, Ont., led with 25 points.

Beach volleyball

Men — Josh Binstock, Richmond Hill, Ont., and Sam Schachter, Richmond Hill, Ont., lost to Adrian Raurich and Alex Ranghieri, Italy, in the preliminary round, 21-18, 14-21, 15-11.

Equestrian

Eventing: individual cross-country — Rebecca Howard, Marlborough, U.K., finished 15th on Riddle Master; Jessica Phoenix, Cannington, Ont., finished 41st on A Little Romance; Colleen Loach, Dunham, Que., finished 45th on Qorry Blue d’Argouges; Kathryn Robinson, Kettering, England, finished 55th on Let It Bee.

Eventing: team — Jessica Phoenix, Kathryn Robinson, Colleen Loach, Rebecca Howard, finished 11th with a score of 331.10.

Field hockey

Men — Canada lost 3-1 to Argentina in the preliminary round, dropping to 0-2 in Group B. Scott Tupper, Vancouver, scored the lone goal.

Judo

Women’s 57 kg — Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard, St-Hubert, Que., lost to Hedvig Karakas, Hungary, on a non-combativity penalty at 4:00 in the round of 16.

Rowing

Men’s quadruple sculls — Julien Bahain, Sherbrooke, Que.; Will Dean, Kelowna, B.C.; Rob Gibson, Kingston, Ont.; Pascal Lussier, St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que., finished fifth in repechage in 5:56.28.

Women’s lightweight double sculls — Lindsay Jennerich, Victoria, and Patricia Obee, Victoria, finished first in their heat in 7:03.51.

Men’s fours — Will Crothers, Kingston, Ont.; Conlin McCabe, Brockville, Ont.; Kai Langerfeld, North Vancouver, B.C.; Tim Schrijver, Thedford, Ont., finished second in their heat in 5:58.26.

Women’s pairs — Nicole Hare, Calgary; Jennifer Martins, Toronto, finished fourth in their heat in 5:58.26.

Men’s lightweight fours — Maxwell Lattimer, Delta, B.C.; Nicolas Pratt, Kingston, Ont.; Brendan Hodge, South Delta, B.C.; Eric Woelfl, St. Catharines, Ont., finished fourth in repechage in 6:05.35.

Men’s one-person dinghy (Laser) — Lee Parkhill, Oakville, Ont., finished 37th.

Swimming

Women’s 200-metre freestyle — Katerine Savard, Pont-Rouge, Que., finished second in her heat in 1:57.15. Savard finished seventh in the semifinal in 1:57.36. Brittany MacLean, Toronto, finished sixth in her heat in 1:57.74. MacLean finished fifth in the semifinal in 1:57.36.

Women’s 200m individual medley — Sydney Pickrem, Halifax, finished second in her heat in 2:11.06. Pickrem finished seventh in the semifinal in 2:10.57, and qualified for the final. Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson, finished fourth in her heat in 2:12.56. Seltenreich-Hodgson finished 14th in 2:12.25 and did not qualify for the final.

Women’s 100m breaststroke — Rachel Nicol, Lethbridge, Alta., finished fifth in the final in 1:06.68.

Table tennis

Men’s singles — Eugene Wang, Ottawa, lost to Chun Ting Wong, Hong Kong, in the third round, 11-9, 11-8, 11-5, 11-9.

Tennis

Women’s singles — Eugenie Bouchard, Westmount, Que., was eliminated from singles play after losing to second-ranked Angelique Kerber, Germany, in the second round, 6-4, 6-2.

Men’s doubles — Daniel Nestor, Toronto, and Vasek Pospisil, Vernon, B.C., defeated Joao Sousa and Gastao Elias, Portugal, in the second round, 6-1, 6-4.
