Canada’s Mohammed Ahmed sticks out his tongue as he wins gold in the men’s 10,000 metre-final at the Pan Am Games Tuesday.

Here’s what you need to know about the Pan Am Games on Wednesday, July 22.

1. Road closures

There are no Pan Am-related road closures Wednesday, but you can take a look at a complete list of road restrictions and closures here.

2. How Canada fared

Canada added 12 medals to its total yesterday, including podium finishes in athletics, fencing, table tennis and boxing.

Canada took home eight medals on the first day of athletics, including four golds.

Liz Gleadle won women’s javelin after moving from third to first on the heels of a great final throw. Shawn Barber followed up with a gold in pole vault, tying a Pan Am record but falling short of his own national record.

Canada also won gold in the men’s 10,000-metre race with Mohammed Ahmed coming out ahead, and brought in their fourth athletic gold with a first and second-place finish in the men’s 3,000-metre steeplechase.

3. Another big day at the track

After a great start on Tuesday, Canada will be hoping to emulate their success at the track today, with more athletes hoping to bring in medals. Keep your eyes on London’s Damian Warner in the decathlon and, of course, Andre De Grasse sprinting in the 100mhoping to make the finals.

4. Canada looks to boxing golds

Tuesday was a big day for Canadian boxers, with Amanda Bujold advancing to this weekend’s gold-medal bout and Arthur Biyarslanov advancing to Thursday’s semifinals, hoping to also join in a weekend bout for gold.

5. Where Canada stands

With Tuesday’s wins at the track and elsewhere, Canada is still in second place in the medal rankings with 160 medals, 59 of them gold. We still trail the U.S., which has 183 medals, 69 of them gold.

6. Panamania picks

You can see indie pop/rock band Stars perform for free at Nathan Phillips Square tonight at 8:15 p.m.

If music isn’t your thing, watch some freestyle soccer at the CIBC Pan Am Park at Exhibition Place at 3 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Panamania showcases more than 250 different performances and exhibitions until August 15.
