Star Wars Meets Nissan in New Car Commercial
It’s for Nissan’s Rogue, of course.
Nissan’s partnership with Lucasfilm was announced earlier this year, when the car company revealed it was working on a limited-edition Star Wars Rogue Oneversion of its popular Rogue model.
While we have to wait until November’s Los Angeles Auto Show to see the car, Nissan today put out a TV spot that shows a 2017 Rogue driving through a Rogue One simulation. It’s pretty cool to see the car zipping around AT-ATs and Stormtroopers. The video also spotlights one of the car’s safety features that alerts the driver when the robot K-2SO stands in the road.
This “Battle Tested” ad, along with a 60-second version, will run on TV starting on October 31.
Rogue One comes to theaters on December 16. It was directed by Godzilla‘s Gareth Edwards and stars Felicity Jones as rebel leader Jyn Erso. She and her squad are on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star. Other stars include Ben Mendelsohn, Diego Luna, Riz Ahmed, Donnie Yen, Forest Whitaker, and Mads Mikkelsen.
In other recent news about the film, Edwards spoke about how Mendelsohn’s character, the evil Director Orson Krennic, is more of a “working-class” bad guy.
“It feels like if the Empire ever have a job vacancy, they go to the Royal Shakespeare Company to headhunt people,” Edwards said. “I like the idea that Ben’s character was much more working-class.”
DICE is releasing a Rogue One-themed expansion for Star Wars Battlefrontcalled Rogue One: Scarif. The DLC comes out in December and a launch near Rogue One‘s theatrical debut seems likely.
